Managing and Supporting iPads in the Classroom
More and more iOS devices are showing up in classrooms around the state. Managing these tools on a one by one basis is fine when you have just a handful, but how to you manage a lab set (or two) of 40? If every teacher in the school has an iPad, how can you handle the purchase and licensing of apps for each individual?

Join me today and we’ll discuss the tools available to you handle the initial setup and user profile management and syncing of iOS devices - including the set up of wireless networks & email - even turning off the App Store and iTunes for purchases. We’ll also discuss the Volume Purchasing Program that Apple has in place that will not only help you manage the purchase and distribution of apps, but could also save some money by buying apps in bulk at a 50% discount. We’ll also discuss the use of iCloud to handle syncing and backup of these devices without ever needing to connect them to a computer.

iAuthor = iLearn
Apple’s iAuthor is a great tool for students to be in charge of their own learning and provides them a way to be creative about how they display information to others. This group of 4th graders from Ellis Elementary in Logan, Utah created their own ebook on the water cycle so that the rest of the class could view and learn from it on class iPads. Ask them about what made the task fun, hard, challenging, and educational. Talking to the students will help you develop your own plan based on their successes and failures as you try to integrate this new technology in your own class. Great for any Gifted and Talented class or differentiated instruction.

Flipped Classroom: Why I Love It, How I Do It
Instead of all direct instruction lessons occurring in the classroom and worksheets being done for homework, the opposite occurs in the flipped classroom. The flipped classroom changes the classroom from a teacher centered, lecture driven classroom to a discussion driven, work session with individual student needs being the focus. The flipped classroom uses technology to deliver content in a format where students can work individually, and at their own pace. Students then work collaboratively on activities with teacher guidance. We use the flipped lessons as a springboard into deeper discussion, investigations, and activities. Come see how I use it in my classroom and why my team and our students love it.

Show Me Everything
Are you looking for someone to "Show Me" how to "Explain Everything?" In this hands-on session, you will learn how to annotate, animate, and narrate interactive lessons with ease. The class will focus on two specific apps to use with the iPad: Explain Everything and Show Me Interactive Whiteboard. Explain Everything is an app that allows you to import photos and PDF’s from Dropbox, Evernote, Email, or iPad cameras. You then have the ability to record on-screen drawing, annotation, movement, and audio via the iPad microphone. Completed projects can be exported and shared with teachers, students, parents, and others to foster learning. Show Me Interactive Whiteboard is a free app that allows you to turn your iPad into a personal interactive whiteboard, allowing you to record voice-over tutorials by adding photos and annotation to share with your class and Show Me’s online learning community.

These easy to use apps support the flipped classroom model and create dynamic interactive lessons, activities, assessments, and tutorials. In this session you will be presented with ideas for using these apps to support explicit classroom instruction, differentiation, and creating personalized and interactive lessons. Learning should be less standardized and more personalized, and through the use of these apps it can be!

Geocaching: Mixing Technology and Your Curriculum
Geocaching is a worldwide recreational activity enjoyed by GPS users. It involves a GPS user hiding a "cache" and posting the exact coordinates so other GPS users can come on a "scavenger hunt" to find it. There are caches of all kinds for all ages and are usually placed in interesting locations in your area that you may not know about.
The concept of the game can be easily adapted as an engaging way to have students discover concepts and information in any curriculum. With a little work you’ve integrated technology, a little exercise, and whatever topic you want to explore, giving multiple ways to learn subject matter.
Use a ‘Multi-Stage Cache’ to test the comprehension of your students from the story your class just read; or perhaps you could have your students cooperatively solve a math puzzle to find the hidden container; or even peruse the ‘EarthCaches’ on Geocaching.com - caches from around the world based on various geology and earth sciences.
